Beer magnate Alfred Heineken and his chauffeur Ab Doderer were kidnapped in 1983 by four hooded gunmen in front of the brewery headquarter (Pentagon) in Amsterdam. A ransom of 35 million guilders (about 16 million euros) was paid. For 21 days they had been held hostage in two cells behind a false wall in a warehouse on an industrial estate near the port of Amsterdam.
On this brand new (most talked about) city tour, you will learn all details about it from our guide. By luxury coach, you will visit all relevant locations in Amsterdam related to this classic crime. For example: the neighbourhoods (Staatsliedenbuurt, Jordaan) where the kidnappers grew up, the flowershop where they created their masterplan. You will make a stop at the crime scene, from there we'll take the 'getaway' route to the port of Amsterdam. Where you'll bring an exclusive visit to the cells, which are still intact. Another part of the warehouse is now an exhibition area about the kidnapping and other crimes.
Catch this memorable tour and you will not only discover Amsterdam, but also experience how a youthful dream of four gangsters became a nightmare for a national hero and his chauffeur.
The Kidnap Tour starts and ends at the oldest “brown” in town: Café Karpershoek (1606) near Victoria Hotel opposite Central Station (only a 1 minute walk).
The tour runs every Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Duration 2,5 hours
Price € 17,00 (including 1 free drink)
